The Christian Hospital Foundation MLK celebration luncheon is SOLD OUT!

The Christian Hospital Foundation is hosting its second annual “Embracing the Dream – The Beloved Community” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Luncheon on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Detrick Building Atrium, 11133 Dunn Rd. The event is sold out and will broadcast live on the Christian Hospital Facebook page.
The event will be a celebration of inspiration, hope, and healing for our beloved community. Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, president of Repairers of the Breach, is the keynote speaker; and Evangelist Mary Tillman, "Your" Radio Angel 95.5 FM, will serve as mistress of ceremonies
Scholarships will be awarded at the celebration to the following students, who were selected by their school districts:
- Lauryn Forrest, Ferguson-Florissant School District
- Carlenzia Gilbert, Hazelwood School District
- Morgan Stith, Jennings School District
- Kaja Horton, Lutheran High School North
- Ba'Reia Battle, Normandy Schools Collaborative
- Kameron Rutledge, Riverview Gardens School District
- Taylor Edwards, Trinity Catholic High School
- Kyle Shaw, St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley
The Drum Major for Service Award will also be presented at the celebration to honor the following unsung individuals who have given their time, talents and treasure in the service of justice and equality:
- James Buford, Retired President and Chief Executive Officer, Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis
- Maxine Clark & Bob Fox, Clark-Fox Family Foundation
- Sonya Crider, Executive Director, Emerson Family YMCA
- Esther Haywood, President Emeritus, Saint Louis County NAACP
- Susan Stith, Vice President, Diversity, Inclusion and Corporate Giving, Express Scripts Holding Company
- Kelvin Westbrook, President and Chief Executive Officer, KRW Advisors, LLC
The award is inspired by the following words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. describing what he called the “Drum Major Instinct” in a sermon over a half-century ago to the congregation in Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church: “If you want to say I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice; say that I was a drum major for peace; I was a drum major for righteousness … We all have the drum major instinct.”
Christian Hospital Foundation raises and allocates funds to support efforts such as patient care, advancing medicine and technology, community benefit programs, community health access, staff education, and new hospital facilities and equipment.
