Christian Hospital Foundation Events Bring Community Together
2019 is off to a great start for the Christian Hospital Foundation, which hosted the January 18 Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon and sponsored the February 16 Heart Fair. The events are central to the foundation’s mission to support the hospital and the community we serve through fundraising and community outreach.
The Detrick Building Atrium was packed for the sold-out luncheon to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy, local scholarship winners, and the recipients of the Drum Major Awards who have embraced the dream to improve their communities.
Rev. Dr. Traci Blackmon, of Repairers of the Breach and pastor of Christ the King United Church of Christ in Florissant, gave an inspiring keynote address in which she challenged the audience to be willing “to dream, to act, to change this world.”
The foundation raised over $58,000 from the event to support the needs of the hospital, the Medication & IV Antibiotic Fund for indigent patients and scholarships for local high school and junior college students pursuing careers in healthcare.
The luncheon was broadcast live and a recording can be viewed on Facebook.
On Saturday, February 16, the foundation-sponsored Heart Fair brought the community together to get health screenings, watch presentations from experts on heart health and stroke, and get a wide variety of information from 28 different booths.
The event saw community members receive 151 free blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose screenings and 71 free EKG screenings.
Next up for the foundation is their 9th annual Golf Outing which will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Norwood Hills Country Club. The event will include brunch, 18 holes, happy hour, dinner, and more. Proceeds from this event supports the Christian Hospital Foundation and everything they do for our hospital and community.
