Changing Lives One Night's Sleep at a Time
Sleep deprivation takes a serious toll on the body and greatly impacts the quality of life. Lack of sleep can cause fatigue, short temper, the inability to focus and a laundry list of other problems. When left untreated, it can lead down a road of serious medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. At Christian Hospital, our Sleep Disorders Center is committed to identifying and addressing the root cause of sleep-related issues.
Christian Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center was the first in St. Louis County to be certified by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). It was also the first physician-directed sleep lab in the St. Louis area. The six-bed facility is designed for optimal comfort while adhering to the highest quality standards. The Sleep Disorders Center treats a wide range of conditions, such as insomnia and narcolepsy, but the most common issue is sleep apnea, or brief interruptions of breathing during sleep.
One out of five people with sleep apnea have at least one other medical condition. Therefore, it is important to be evaluated by a physician knowledgeable in sleep medicine to determine what test is best.
To provide a proper diagnosis, a sleep study, known as a polysomnogram, records and measures certain sleep characteristics. Our sleep technicians registered in polysomnography score the results and our accredited sleep physicians evaluate them to determine the best treatment plan to resolve our patients’ sleep-related issues.
Offering a high level of expertise, the Sleep Disorders Center is under the medical directorship of Pulmonary Consultants, Inc., and works in conjunction with Christian Hospital’s Breathing Center. As the longest accredited center in St. Louis County, it’s part of our continued commitment to providing the community with the best possible care for a better night’s sleep.
