Your Best Medicine with Julie Snider
Have you ever wondered what it's like to work at a hospital? What types of jobs are available here? Or what it means to be part of BJC, one of the largest nonprofit health care organizations in the country? Learn more in this series of interviews with the dedicated team members of Christian Hospital and Northwest HealthCare.
How long have you been at CH/BJC?
I have been at Christian Hospital for 11 years and have always worked in the Lab as a tech. I started my career here after getting my associate degree in medical laboratory technology from Southwestern Illinois College, and I am using the BJC tuition reimbursement benefit to continue my education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
In your job, how do you provide your best medicine to our patients?
I provide our best medicine to patients by making sure the tests are done quickly but accurately, because behind every test there’s a patient, there’s a family, there’s a friend and you want to make sure those tests are correct and want to get them done as quickly as possible so the doctors have the results to address whatever is going on with the patient.
What is your favorite thing/or most rewarding about your job?
My favorite thing is working with other staff members. I really feel like it’s a family environment here in the Lab. We work well together and have great teamwork. We’re accountable to each and help each other out whenever we can.
Why do you choose to work at Christian Hospital?
I choose to work at Christian Hospital because it runs in my family! My dad and sister have both worked here in the past.
