Radiology Upgrades:
Bringing the Latest Technology Close to Home
Christian Hospital and BJC HealthCare are investing more than $9 million to ensure the latest and most advanced imaging capabilities are available in north St. Louis County.
New 128-slice CT scanners with bariatric tabletops to image patients weighing up to 625 pounds are now in place at both Christian Hospital and Northwest HealthCare (NWHC). A new digital X-ray unit has also been installed at NWHC.
Mammography has gotten a boost at Christian Hospital with the addition of a new breast ultrasound area for breast ultrasounds and biopsies, along with a new upright breast stereotactic/mammography machine and its own room in the mammography area.
Earlier this year, a new CT simulator was installed at Siteman Cancer Center at NWHC for radiation oncology services. This 128-slice CT scanner does images of patients in treatment positions with treatment devices to best deliver maximum tumor doses while minimizing normal critical body structure exposure.
New C-arm fluoroscopy units are in use at the Pain Management Center and the Surgery Center, along with a new ABI (Ankle-Brachial Index) machine used for vascular ultrasound to test for peripheral artery disease.
A third CT unit with 256-slice capabilities will be added at Christian Hospital in July, along with a second MRI unit to be added in November with incremental capabilities. Three new state-of-the-art ultrasound machines will also be in place this summer.
Imaging services are available at Christian Hospital Monday–Friday from 7 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m.–noon; and at Northwest HealthCare Monday–Friday from 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
