U.S. News & World Report ranks Christian Hospital No. 5 in St. Louis region and No. 11 in Missouri; High Performing Hospital in 1 Adult Specialty & 7 Procedures and Conditions

Christian Hospital has ranked No. 5 in the St. Louis metro area and No. 11 in Missouri by U.S. News and World Report for 2022-23, which puts us in the top 7% of all hospitals in the state.

The U.S. News methodology ranks clinical specialties and rates common care procedures and conditions. Christian was recognized as “high performing” in gastroenterology and GI surgery and is among only 3% of all hospitals in the nation to receive recognition in a specialty. Of the more than 4,500 hospitals evaluated, only 164 were ranked nationally in at least one specialty.

In common care procedures and conditions, Christian was also rated “high performing” in the following seven of 20 procedures and conditions: heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, diabetes, COPD, lung cancer (new) and stroke (new). “High performing” in a specialty means we were in the top 10% nationally of all evaluated hospitals for that specialty or procedure and condition.

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings, now in their eighth year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for common conditions and elective procedures. These ratings extend the U.S. News mission of providing consumers with patient decision support beyond the Best Hospitals rankings, which are geared toward complex specialty care.

“This recognition belongs to the North County community and the dedicated employees and physicians of Christian Hospital – together they have made these achievements possible, and we are truly humbled and honored that our accomplishments are being recognized,” said Rick Stevens, president of Christian Hospital and Northwest HealthCare. “We continue to see our vision become reality as the place where patients want to come, doctors want to practice and employees want to work, and a continual emphasis on our mission of improving the lives of the communities we serve.”

For the 2022-2023 Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Fewer than half of all hospitals received any High Performing rating, and only four earned this rating in all procedures and conditions. State and metro area rankings reflect the highest performing hospitals in the area across multiple areas of care.

“When patients are considering their options for care, the Best Hospitals ratings are designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.  “A hospital that’s earned a High Performing rating in a service may be a good option for patients in need of that service and their medical professionals to consider."
